Today I've been thinking a lot about this Little Petunia. 2 years ago this little gal underwent a big ordeal. Lydia was only 4 months old when we found out that she had
Unicoronal Craniosynostosis . In hopes of correcting the problem, Lydia would require surgery.
This is Lydia a couple of days before her surgery...just 6 Months Old.
This is a perfect picture of what the Craniosynostosis was actually doing to Lydia's skull. This was taken just an hour before her surgery, two years ago, tomorrow.
After seven and a half hours of surgery to completely reconstruct the front of her skull, Lydia emerged with over 60 stitches across the top of her head. She then spent 24 hours in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
Lydia spent the next 2 days on the Pediatric Floor. Her head swelled to twice the size and her eyes swelled shut.
Once we were able to keep Lydia's pain under control, she could eat on her own and her eyes opened, we were able to head home. She was such a tough cookie!
This is Lydia only one week after her surgery. It was so amazing that she could bounce back so quickly!
Here Lydia is one year post surgery, and looking great!
This picture was taken of Lydia last Sunday, August 2nd. She is looking so good and after 2 years we are still so grateful for competent, caring surgeons and anesthesiologists. She went to see one of the surgeons last week for a another post-op appointment. He said that he didn't need to see her again until she is four. He has been so pleased with the outcome of the surgery and thought that Lydia couldn't be doing any better!
Ryan was excited about his new shoes and his Diego Backpack. He was very interested to meet new friends and get to know his teacher.
Ryan tends to be pretty serious in situations where he might feel a little nervous. This was no exception. He definitely had a very pensive look on his face.
And after a tight hug and a quick kiss on the cheek, Ryan was off! What a big boy...Where did all that time go?
